I present an overview of the most interesting discoveries and improvements 
in our understanding of the structure and dynamics of the Milky Way and 
the Local group, which were based on the second data release of the Gaia 
space mission in April 2018. I will focus more specifically on the dynamics 
of star clusters and the Galactic halo.
