Ein Supercomputer für das Universum

The Zurich Student Newspaper published a recent article (in German) about our supercomputing activities here at the Institute for Computational Science.

We don't really calculate the trajectories of satellites, rather we are quantifying the end-to-end performance of the Euclid (2022) space telescope at measuring the effect of dark energy in the Universe. This involves producing a virtual universe from computer simulations that matches as closely as possible the real Universe. We use both the national supercomputer in Lugano (CSCS) as well as our own in-house clusters in order to do this. The article describes a bit what it means to be a Computational Scientist in the field of astrophysics.
